Seeing light after darkness
Swamini Krishnamritaprana
Excerpted from her book "Sacred Journey"
A lady from Switzerland had a moving experience to share about
meeting Amma. She has suffered a deep mental depression and had
eventually entered a psychiatric hospital. The following year she
met Amma and took a long list of questions to ask her, hoping that
she would take away her illness.
Amma answered only that she should meditate ten minutes each day.
The woman felt she did not have the strength to do so. She was able
to leave the hospital three months later, but without much hope
of overcoming her illness.
Even though it was clear to her that Amma was a Mahatma( a great
soul), she felt that even Amma was not able to overcome her terrible
depression. She felt doomed by her illness, like she was in a prison
with no way out. Her sister once asked Amma what else she could
do to help her. Amma replied, “ Tell your sister that she
is under Amma’s protection.”
Even with her illness, she joined her ninety-year-old mother in
laminating photos and stickers that were being made for sale in
the bookstore. Gradually, she began to feel some contentment that
she could help others through this selfess service.
The next year, when Amma visited their town for the tour, this
lady joined her for a walk around the grounds of her sister’s
house where Amma was staying. During the walk, Amma sat down on
a small wooden foot bridge to meditate, and this lady sat with the
others by the side of the river. Listening to the bubbling noise
of the water, she suddenly felt that the heavy weight on her shoulders
was flowing away with the water. The next night she had another
powerful revelation when Amma came back from the program hall early
in the morning. Amma passed her on the stairs and touched her hand.
Through Amma’s physical touch, she experienced in a split
second that Amma is the Real Truth. She felt deep within that she
was accepted by God and not condemned as she had always thought.
This lady feels that Mother has worked on her from within. Perhaps
it was acts of service that brought the grace to create a healing.
With Amma’s grace, she was able to stop taking anti-depressants,
and feels convinced that Amma’s Integrated Amrita Meditation
Techique® (more details)
helps her to keep her inner balance. She has been relieved of the
serious depression that filled so many years of her life with darkness.
It is as if she has had a second chance in life.
