Amma's
visit to the devastated areas
Amma
visited the cities and villages that suffered the wrath of
the Tsunami waves in Southern India. She also went door-to-door
to the houses in the worst-hit areas like Nagapattinam and
its coastal villages and listened to the woes of the fishermen.
Further, Amma reviewed the rehabilitation works already undertaken
by her ashram in Nagapattinam. Read

Until now, about 100 temporary
shelters has been set up by the M.A.Math ( Amma's non-profit
organization in India). Furthermore the math has established
an orphanage that takes care of about 350 children orphaned
by the dreadful Tsunami wave. It would also employ women,
who have lost their children, with education upto eighth standard
and above, as foster mothers in the children's home to be
started soon to take care of orphans.
Following
this, the ashram will construct 1,300 permanent houses and
also proposes to pay a monthly pension of Rs 450 for 100 widows
under "Amrita Nidhi" scheme.
One of the volunteers, Raghu,
who worked in the Nagappttinam relief camp reported thus:
" When I landed in the
relief camp that was set up by Amma's ashram I did not understand
the amount of work that was needed. I first started serving
food that was cooked for over 10,000 people each time. A sumptuous
breakfast with tea, a hearty vegatarian meal for lunch, a
snack and hot milk in the afternoon and dinner. While serving
for breakfast was over, clean-up and lunch serving began.
I was overwhelmed. I went around the devastated areas with
the volunteers to speak with the victims. Many of them did
not even have the enthusiasm to come to the food booths to
get their meal. We coaxed them lovingly to take their food.
Some shooed us away out of frustration. Nevertheless, many
volunteers who were with me tactfully brought them to the
food camps. After their stomachs were full, we comforted them
in the best way we could. We realized that to be a loving
listener was the best therapy for their wounded souls. We
silently shared their tears, assuring them that we will be
around for them anytime."
Amma left Sri Lanka yesterday
after comforting the thousands of bereaved families. She has
offered Rs.3 Crores worth of relief aid to Sri Lanka. Amma
met with the Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse and
with President Chandrika Kumaratunga to dicuss the relief
efforts. Read

What will I get from Amma?
Of course, in this world, where everything revolves more around
taking than giving, it is quite understandable that people
want to know what they will get from Amma. Okay, let us think
in the same line. What does Amma give? Read

Gems
to treasure
"If Christ was really a
mahatma, couldn't he have prevented his enemies from crucifying
him?" Sudhamsu,
a college professor asked Amma.
Amma:
"Christ sacrificed himself to teach
others the greatness of sacrifice and forgiveness. The mahatmas
can remove their own suffering in an instant if they wish.
But what they desire is to set an example for the whole world,
even if it means their own suffering. No one can do anything
to the mahatmas. You can't even approach them without their
consent. No one can oppose them if they resolve against it.
They willingly undergo suffering to teach the world how to
face opposing forces and adverse circumstances."
