Amma to visit Sri Lanka

Feb 21, 2007

Amma has accepted the invitation of the President of Sri Lanka, Mahendra Rajapakshe, to visit Sri Lanka and hand over the keys to the houses the M.A.Math built for the tsunami victims in that country.

The function will take place at the Presidential Palace place, Temple Tree, Colombo on Friday, 23rd February 2007 at 4:15 pm.
A total of 96 houses have been built in two locations: in the Western Provence in the Sinhalese district of Kalutara, and in the Eastern Province, in the Tamil district of Ampara.

Each house measures 600 square feet and was built at a cost of 4 lakhs Indian Rupees. After the tsunami, Amma offered a total of more than 3.5 crores Indian rupees for the tsunami-rehabilitation work in Sri Lanka. That offering is now coming to completion with the distribution of the house keys on Friday.

Amma visited Sri Lanka in 2005, where she gave darshan in Tsunami-Relief Camps and distributed thousands of shirts, dhotis and saris as well as medicine to the disaster victims.
