Project Katrina Reunite
October 5, 2005
Project Katrina Reunite focuses on searching for missing children
and their families, and others who were displaced and have lost track
of each other in the wake of the devastation caused by hurricane
Katrina. The search is done online over forty online databases.
M. A. Center volunteers started this project on August 31, 2005
just two days after Katrina struck the Gulf coast. More than 150
people have contributed to this effort, many working around the
clock from home and remote offices. Several hundred missing persons
have been reunited with their loved ones as a result of Project
Katrina Reunite. The ability to use the internet to provide comfort
to the suffering has been a wonderful discovery for those unable
to travel to the shelter and give aid directly.
Project Katrina Reunite also includes a subgroup that places calls
to individuals and shelters, in order to notify people that their
loves ones have been located.
