some of the numbers below are not upto-date. The number of
beneficiaries have been increased considerably.
Rebuilding more than 6,200 homes in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry,
Andhra Pradesh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
In the adopted villages the Math will also be constructing roads
and community halls.
Rebuilding hundreds of homes in Sri Lanka through Healthcare Charities,
Inc., U.S.A. (an initiative of Amma’s devotees).
Providing pensions for widows in the two adopted villages in Tamil
Nadu and in the area around the Ashram.
An orphanage for 150 children in Nagapattinam and a home for 50
children in Chennai.
Mothers whose children died in the tsunami are being offered jobs
as caregivers in the orphanages.
Repairing and replacing hundreds of boats,boat engines and fishing
nets to help destitute fishermen return to work.
Free education and vocational training for more than 2,000 young
people including:
450 nursing assistants trained at AIMS, 500 automobile drivers and
securityguards trained at the Ashram’s vocational training
centre. Seven young women educated at the Ashram’s Teacher
Training College in Mysore. Hundreds of women trained in tailoring,
candle making and toy-making
Within the first three months after the tsunami struck, over 20,000
volunteers, including Ashram residents from India and abroad, students
and members of the Ashram’s youth wing have helped with the
relief work.
