Disaster Relief - Floods & Mudslide in Mumbai
July 29 - August 2, 2005
In the recent floods and mudslide in Maharashtra, India, the death
toll is estimated to be around 1000, including more than 400 in
Mumbai (the capital city of Maharashtra). The flooding and landslides
cut off large swaths of Mumbai, prompting the government to evacuate
50,000 people living near riverbanks and dams.

The Mata Amritanandamayi Math has extended its helping
hand realizing the immediate help for the grief stricken. The volunteers
plung into action.

Food was prepared at the local M. A. Math premises
in Nerul, and distributed to the hundreds who are staying in two
makeshift shelters at Ambedkar Nagar, MIDC, Shirovane setup by the
Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation.
