Our Story
We were approaching the end of another serving at the homeless shelter. Everything had gone smoothly and without incident, so we were beginning to wrap up. I was standing near the drinks counter with another devotee when a man with a broad smile approached us to express his gratitude for a great meal. He thanked us and vowed that "when I get out of here, I'm going to do just what you guys are doing!" Something in him was very much touched by our actions. It seems he had caught Amma's contagion of compassion and selfless service simply by being in our company. It also ocurred to me that as we were offering physical nourishment on one level, we were also offering spiriutal nourishment to those who were open to it on another level simply through our example. This is what Amma teaches us to do through her own example. So in this way we are able to offer food for the body as well as food for the soul. Jai Amma!
