Mother's Kitchen in Denver

Warming hands and hearts

Dear All,

We just had the most amazing Mother's Kitchen here in Denver. We are still in the middle of weeks of cold and frigid arctic weather. Fortunately for this year's holiday bags we had enough donations to include warm thinsulate thermal socks for all. In fact, we actually were able to buy a second pair and hats too. That is 108 hats and 216 pairs of warm socks.

We do our Mother's Kitchen on a street corner in Denver across from two shelters. The men and women who carry their belongings in a shopping basket or on their back are whom we serve.

Today we stood outside with our fingers burning from the cold, and gave everyone some hot chocolate, which we brought along in a big Igloo container. In addition, the food bags contained two hearty cheese
and mustard sandwiches on yummy Orowheat bread, a whole banana, pretzels, so many cookies; and a bottle of water, a Hershey's kiss and a picture of Mother who inspired us to serve in this way with one of her quotes. We also included a Lipton tea bag, and a pack of hot cocoa that they can use later.

To help keep everyone warm, they all received two pair of thinsulate thermal socks and a beautiful new warm hat. This was our first time bringing a hot beverage and our first time packing beverages that they can use later like the tea and cocoa package. It was wonderful to have a hot drink to offer on a day like today.

It took me fifteen minutes after coming in from the cold corner where we dispersed the provisions to thaw out my fingers and get them to stop burning. It was just that bitter! There was one little girl, under 10
years of age, and definitely much too young to be homeless who haunts us. I am glad we were able to put > a nice cup of hot cocoa into her cold hands, and a lunch bag too. I am proud that one of us took the gloves off her own hands and gave them to this child.

We pray for the well-being of all, especially of those around the world with inadequate provisions and shelter battling extreme weather conditions during these very unpredictable and extreme times. We hope to continue to try and do whatever we can to alleviate their suffering.

May a blessed New Year, be yours.

With much Love and respect,
I remain,
So very lucky to be in Amma's Service,
