Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu!
We discovered a group in Santa Monica, called HOPE, which stands for Helping
Other People Eat. They have been serving hot meals in the park there for the
past 8 years. They serve twice a week on Wednesdays and Thursdays. On any
given Wednesday or Thursday anywhere from 150 - 300 people are served. A
group of us from our local Amma satsang group helps HOPE three Thursdays per
month in their endeavor to feed lots of people. Every week we provide
sandwiches (at least 150) to go along with the hot meal, and 4 times a month
we cook the main dish. We have about 10-12 people from our Satsang group
that help to cook, transport, and serve the food.
Mother's Kitchen works in partnership with HOPE, a grass-roots, all
volunteer organization that has been serving the homeless community in Santa
Monica since 1992.HOPE plans to formally move the site of the Meal
Distribution Program. After November 15, Mother's Kitchen and HOPE will be
moving to an indoor facility in downtown Santa Monica at 512 Colorado Avenue
(between 6th & 7th Streets). This new location is a step forward that will
increase the need for dedicated volunteers.
