Amma's Guru Purnima Message

Read about the events preceding Amma's message on the Guru Purnima day

Amma's Message:

Amma began by looking fondly around at everyone… “Amritasya Putraha…,” she said, addressing her children. “Children of Immortality…”

“… Amma feels that this has come true today, when I look around at your eager faces looking up at Amma with so much interest and enthusiasm…”

To be born in love, to live in love, and to die in love is the purpose of this human birth. However, in truth there is no end for such pure love. The Guru-Disciple relationship is the pathway to remind us of this great goal and to help realize it. The True Master is the embodiment of Supreme Love.

Love sustains this universe and unites all beings within it . For both humans and animals alike, it is the power of love that bonds the mother to her child and the child to its mother. Without that, the mother would abandon her newborn child, turn and walk the other way.

Thus the bond between the mother and child is the purest form of the love known to us. Yet the highest form of pure love is the bond between the Spiritual Master and disciple.

That is the pinnacle of love. When that bond becomes firm and deep-rooted, our birth is fulfilled. Children, you should all strive to reach that pinnacle of love.

All your actions and duties should be filled with the sweetness of love. It is that sweetness that transforms ordinary action into Guruseva, or service to the Guru. Devoid of the sweetness of love, action is mere labor.

Action that is performed only for material growth is also mere labor. However,, action that is performed to develop love within and attain spiritual growth is Guruseva. Such actions are worship of the inner Self. That, indeed, is true devotion.
