Amma remembers them all....
No matter how far away her children are, a mother's heart constantly stays with them, gently watching over them and wishing them well. No matter which corner of the world her children are, a mother always immerses herself in fond remembrance of her children's beautiful qualities. She admiringly talks about their kindness, love and selfless nature. Our Amma is a true mother in all respects; hers is the heart of a million mothers.
Now that the European tour is on, Amma continues to do there what she does everywhere in the world on a daily basis - embracing, thousands of her children in her arms - consoling them and wiping their tears.
A few days ago, late night in Switzerland a young man named Patrick sat in a corner watching Amma. Seeing him, Amma called out to him and said, "Amma thinks about you a lot. I mention your example of selflessness and sacrifice in Amritapuri Ashram. I tell the ashram residents that children from all over the world like you work so hard to help humanity. Like you, everyone should make a sincere effort to never waste anything."
Hearing Amma's affectionate words about him, Patrick simply smiled. Such is the nature of modesty that few people knew what Amma was talking about. Needless to say, everyone was curious to know more about him and it was learnt that Patrick often works in the cold, volunteering for hours and hours, without even being aware of his hands bleeding from the cold!
Whenever, reporters ask Amma how she is able to run such a wide range of humanitarian activities across the globe, Amma says, "Compassion is the most important thing and I have many good-hearted children. They are my wealth."
Amma always stresses the importance of using materials wisely, not wasting even the smallest amount. She tells the Amritapuri ashramites to maintain constant awareness regarding the use of all the hard-earned resources.
Selfless service is an important component of Amma.s teaching. She teaches us to volunteer our time and energy for the homeless, the hungry and the needy. To help us, she offers us the example of her life. Patrick.s service is a beautiful bouquet of the innocent flowers of his heart.
The garden of selfless service is as big as the universe. We too can pluck a few flowers and offer them to our Mother-our Mother who asks for nothing, yet remembers everything we do to selflessly serve those around us.
