May 20: Farming Seva

Veggie garden beds at Amma Canada Farm

Planting the Veggie Garden

Farming season is now in full swing! Thanks to the volunteers who came last Saturday to prepare the ground for the veggie garden. We are ready to plant the vegetable seedlings this weekend. Extra hands are needed and welcomed! Planting starts Saturday, May 20 at 10 Am and will continue until 4 Pm. If you have an hour or two to give us a helping hand during this time, you are most welcome to join us. A light lunch will be provided. Don’t forget to bring a cap, water bottle and sunscreen! Please let us know by Friday, May 19 in the morning if you will be attending by signing up with the Sign Up Genius. For more info or to reach the Farm Team, email ammatoronto@ammagroups.org.

Tick Safety

Deer ticks - small, black, eight-legged insects that can latch on to human skin without notice - are present on the Amma Canada property. Ticks sometimes carry a bacteria that can cause Lyme Disease. Using a tick repellent and doing tick checks will help mitigate the risk. If you plan to walk anywhere on site where there is bush or tall grass, please wear long pants with the pant bottoms tucked into your socks, and spray your clothing with tick repellent. After working on the Farm, always inspect your body, hair and clothing thoroughly for ticks.
